Personal Skills

3. Make informed decisions, set goals, take actions, and evaluate results while exhibiting honesty, integrity and personal accountability.

This ESLR is about developing personal responsibility and integrity. At EMHS, we expect our students to set high goals for themselves and work towards achieving those goals. We also expect students to act morally and ethically by "doing the right thing" in all situations and accepting responsibility for their actions.

WASC is coming to EMHS…

What is WASC? WASC is The Western Association of Schools and Colleges. They are the accreditation organization that ensures EMHS and other schools are providing a high quality education and instructional program for students. The visit for EMHS will occur in the spring of 2012. A school's accreditation term can be from 1 to 6 years.

What is the Accreditation Process? The Accreditation process is a self-evaluation of the school by the entire school community. An effective WASC self-study review is a powerful tool for schools to improve the quality of education and more effectively serve staff and students. It requires extensive input from staff members and students, as well as from our parents and community members.

We need students and parents! Throughout our WASC process this year, we will be calling upon our students, parents, and community members to participate as WASC committee members and to volunteer time to complete surveys. Meetings will take place during Late Starts. Your comments and opinions are very important to us and the WASC self-study process as a whole.

How you can help: If you are interested in helping the school by serving on a committee and/or completing surveys, please send an email through Loop Mail to Greg Vaniman or Harmony Valuet. You may also call the front office at 626-444-7701 and leave a message.

Important Reminder about New Vaccination Requirement

This is a reminder for all students returning to El Monte High School in the Fall of 2011. Every student must have proof that they received the Tdap Booster shot before they enter school in August (grades 7-12). The school will not be able to accept students in August who do not have this booster shot!

Please make sure to get this shot, if you haven’t done so yet. There is an informational letter available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese on the district website: www.emuhsd.org under Parents & Students --> Parent Information tab).

All Staff: If you have any announcements or pictures you would like posted on this page, please email them to mailto:hvaluet@emuhsd.k12.ca.us. Thanks!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR TEXTBOOKS

ATTENTION STUDENTS!!! PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY!

In order to make sure that you do not get fined or charged for damaged textbooks, please follow the instructions below:

1. Make sure that there is a clear protector cover over the barcode that says El Monte High School on the back of your book. The covers are important because if the barcode falls off or is damaged beyond recognition, we will assume the book is stolen or tampered with and you will be charged the full replacement price! Also, if the barcode is damaged and needs to be replaced, you will be charged $5 to cover the cost of replacing the barcode. You can pick up a cover in the Student Store, Room 76, or the Library.

2. Please look through your books and throw away any papers or trash you find inside. You can remove the book card from the front or back pocket, but please do not rip out the pocket itself, as this may damage the book.

3. If you find any serious damage when going through the book that is not already noted, you should show us in the Student Store, Room 76, or Library at lunch, before school or after school. We will stamp it “damaged” or replace it, so that you will not be blamed for it. Otherwise, you might get fined or charged for the damage at the end of the year because we will have to assume that it was damaged while in your care.
